Prior to the internet, if we wanted to buy something new that we hadn’t bought before then we would either look in a catalogue, talk to friends and family, go to a trade show, take a trip into the biggest local town or city – In my case, this was Edinburgh as I grew up in the Borders of Scotland and when I was young, this was a big deal – or wander down the street and talk to the owner of the local general store as they, at the time, seemed to know pretty much everything about everything.
