Dealing with prejudice

One of the most commonly asked questions about writing a CV is what to do about bias. This is a really difficult one to answer, and we are sure there is no one correct way to go about this. Rather, you need to reflect on your own values when deciding what to do.

The first thing to say is that there is a lot of it about. The second thing to say very quickly is that, for some groups, things are getting a bit better.

Bias exists in all forms and includes, but is not limited to:

  • ethnicity
  • gender
  • sexuality
  • marital status
  • religious beliefs
  • age
  • health
  • weight
  • height
  • beauty
  • perceived social class
  • address
  • clothes
  • political beliefs ...
