A lot of money is spent on network and systems management systems in order to be proactive when managing systems and networks. And in order to be truly proactive, the problem must be detected and resolved without the customer knowing there was a problem. To do this, the products work correctly. For network and systems management products to work correctly, hostname naming services such as the /etc/hosts file, NIS, and DNS must be properly configured.
