One goal of enterprise management is to minimize service-impacting downtime. This goal can be accomplished with the assistance of the OpenView intelligent agent software. The primary function of the agent is to monitor the managed environment and report problems and status information about the health of applications, devices, and services. The agent software components for all supported platforms are initially installed on the management server. After the OVO management domain is defined, the agent software and instrumentation is distributed to the various managed nodes.
