In the section of Chapter 3 covering "Adding Disks," I provided an example of the HP-UX steps required to manually add a volume group consisting of five primary disks and five alternate disks. This manual procedure was done for one of ten volume groups. The remaining nine volume groups would have to be added using the same manual procedure, changing the names of the disks and volume groups as part of the manual procedure. Since manually performing these steps is highly error-prone, this is an ideal procedure to automate with a shell program.
