5.6. Performance Characterization and Prediction Tools
The goal of performance characterization is to obtain a baseline of activity for a system or subsystem, and then compare it with activity at various times. The emphasis is placed on making comparisons rather than on taking snapshots. Prediction takes the process one step further by extrapolating future performance out of the data from past runs.
5.6.1. MeasureWare
MeasureWare lets you obtain data relating to performance characterization, performance trending, capacity planning, workload estimation, and chargeback accounting. Data is obtained over time, and data from different periods can be compared. MeasureWare is configured by editing the /var/opt/perf/parm file.
