Introduction
What is a Hudl? To my mind, it’s a family-centric entertainment device that everyone can crowd round, enjoy together and immediately feel comfortable with.
While writing this book about how to use the Hudl, it certainly became a fixture in my daily life. It’s always there when I want to check what’s on the TV, look up a recipe, find out what the weather is planning for later in the day or make an impromptu video when your cousin does something silly. When my toddler nephews came to visit, it was literally child’s play to call up nursery rhymes and interactive storybooks on my Hudl to keep them enthralled. With the rotten TV reception in my flat, the Hudl even gives me an extra option for watching live telly, thanks to a free app that depends on Wi-Fi rather than my TV signal. I’m sure you’ll soon have your own set of everyday essentials for which your Hudl becomes invaluable.
The Hudl is actually an Android tablet, which means that it’s got Google software and search tools firmly at its heart. The Hudl makes full use of Google’s brilliantly designed Play Store, which is an online marketplace for music, books, games, films and software known as apps. You can enjoy many of these entertainment riches for free, and you can also use your Hudl to play and watch the music, photos and videos you already own. Because it’s so easy to apply content settings, finding new things to watch and download is never a concern, even if you hand over the Hudl to a child to use.
