Abstract

This chapter discusses human factors in the design of work areas, that is, the general area where work is undertaken, and workstation/console design, that is, the workspace where activity of a specific nature is conducted. Work area and workspace design are both essential to ensure operator well-being, comfort, and efficiency, as well as reducing the potential for human error. Design needs to take account of the functional requirements of end users as well as the physical dimensions and layout.
