As Hungary emerged from World War II, the Communist Party quickly moved against the country’s democratically elected government. By 1947 it had removed all leading opposition figures and was able to set up a new government based on Soviet-style structures. Sport was reorganized under a centralised administration known as the OTSB (Országos Testnevelési és Sport Bizottság, National Commission for Physical Education and Sport), presided by Gyula Hegyi, and vice-president, Gusztáv Sebes, which oversaw all Hungary’s sports federations, including the MLSz.
