The baseline hybrid is designed to rotate a combustion turbine’s air compressor. However, as illustrated by Figure F.1, from a thermal cycle standpoint, a fixed-speed generator can be readily driven by a helium turbine. The efficiency of the hybrid or all-nuclear configuration is high but will decrease with smaller plant sizes, consistent with trends seen with all types of machines.
