Decline Curve Analysis
Abstract
This chapter starts with an introduction to the anatomy of decline curve analysis (DCA) and the shape of the decline curves. Next, different flow regimes including transient, late transient, and pseudosteady state are outlined. The discussion continues with various types of DCA including exponential, hyperbolic, harmonic, hybrid, and other types of DCA. This chapter also includes modern DCA extending to power law exponential (PLE), stretched exponential, and Duong DCA specially used for unconventional reservoirs. At the end of this chapter the Arps decline curve equation for estimating fracture volumes, as well as with detailed field example and calculations, are presented.
