Fraud

Context

In 2013, after the discovery of huge frauds involving public funds in what the media later dubbed “Capital Hill Cashgate,” the government and development partners formed a joint committee to respond to the discovery. In January 2014, the Committee developed a 1-year action plan. The implementation matrix identified 13 short-, medium-, and long-term actions to be implemented by the law enforcement and prosecuting agencies (such as Police, Financial Intelligence Unit, Malawi Revenue Authority, Anti-Corruption Bureau, and Director of Public Prosecutions).
