Appendix B. Copy Services with System i5 543
Figure B-45 falovrgmir
3. While executing this command, the Toolkit performs the following actions:
a. Run chkpprc command.
b. Vary off the IASP at the local partition.
c. Fail over Global Copy to the remote site.
d. Check the revertible status of the volumes at the remote site and programmatically
create the correct scripts to reverse FlashCopy on the remote volumes.
e. Reverse FlashCopy on the remote volumes.
f. Vary on the IASP on the Global Mirror secondary volumes to the remote partition.
4. Once the command falovrgmir has been executed, the production application continues
to run in the remote partition with the Global Mirror copy of the IASP.
Switch back to local site after unplanned outages
Failback to the local partition is achieved by running DS CLI scripts, which are contained in
the Toolkit.
Metro Mirror for the entire disk space
In this section, we discuss Metro Mirror for a System i5 partition’s entire disk space. We also
assume that Boot from SAN (BfS) is used for both local and remote partitions.
For more information about Metro Mirror, refer to Part 4, “Metro Mirror” on page 109. For more
information about Boot from SAN, refer to the redbook IBM System Storage DS6000 Series:
Architecture and Implementation, SG24-6781.
Solution description
Because of the System i5 single-level storage architecture, it is required that all disk units for
the local partition reside on external storage and that all of them are replicated (with Metro
Mirror) to the remote site.
In the solution that we review here, the load source is an external disk, connected through the
Boot from SAN IOP, and also replicated to the remote site using Metro Mirror. We assume
that the standby partition in the System i5 (recovery partition) at the remote site has access to
Global Mirroring Failover (FALOVRGMIR)
