6.1 The HTML generator
Web Access provides an HTML generator to dynamically generate HTML based on the
group, table, and panel layout information in a data view record. The Web Access
administrator can run this generator from the Web Administration page (see Figure 6-1).
Figure 6-1 The Web Access Web Administration page
There are two methods that can be used to generate the HTML:
1. A hands-on method where the Web Access administrator makes selections, such as what
mode to build (create, update, display, or inquiry)
2. Using the Auto Build file
For any given data view record, you must use the first method the first time through to build
the HTML for each mode separately. At the end of the run for each mode, you can save the
settings in an Auto Build file. Later, you can use this file employing method 2 to repeat the
generation of the HTML with the settings you saved.
Chapter 6. Generating user application HTML 65
Building HTML is simple. Just specify the name of the data view record for which you want to
build the HTML. Then, specify a root HTML name, and decide if you want boxes around
groups and for which mode you want the HTML generated.
In this example, we create the HTML for the BLQVPROB data view record (see Figure 6-2).
We construct the create-mode HTML with boxes around groups. The generated .html file
names start with MTG0.
To do this, type the data view name (BLQVPROB) and the root HTML name (MTG0) into the
corresponding fields in the Create HTML section of the Web Administration page. Select the
Boxes around groups? check box and the Create option next to the Create HTML for label.

Having knowledge of the data in the various tasks, you next select the layouts you want,
depending on the mode you are building. For example, here are the tasks defined for
BLQVPROB:
Summary
Reporter Information
Details
Tracking Information
Completion Information
Audit Information
History Data
Print Record
In Figure 6-3, we choose Reporter Information, Details, and Tracking Information for the
create-mode HTML.
