Customizing the Portal

Once you've installed the portal, the fun part is usually customizing and personalizing the portal so that users feel welcome. Usually as a first step, customers want to give the portal a pleasing and consistent corporate look. In WebSphere Portal terminology, this is called “customizing the portal.”

WebSphere Portal has the concept of pages that exist within places. The user's access rights determine the places that get displayed. Each place can contain one or more pages, and only users who have adequate viewing rights can see those pages. Pages can contain column containers, row containers, and portlets. You can populate row or column containers with portlets or other containers.
