The simplest form of caching is the caching of static file content. In this section, we will explain how static files are served in WAS as well as the opportunities for caching them.
Static File Handling
To understand static file handling in WAS, let's set the stage by describing how things are laid out in a typical J2EE application. Recall that a J2EE application is packaged as a single file known as an EAR. The EAR in turn contains a variety of J2EE modules—in particular, a WAR file.
