7.8 Post-deployment verification tasks
After completing the post-deployment configuration steps, perform
post-deployment verification tasks to ensure that the deployment is fully
functional. Each Workplace Collaboration Services product has its own set of
tasks you perform.
IBM Workplace Collaborative Learning
To verify Collaborative Learning functionality, perform the following steps:
1. Before you begin to test the functionality in Workplace Collaborative Learning,
configure access controls and user roles for your learning environment. For
more information about performing these tasks, see the IBM Redbook, IBM
Lotus Learning Management System Handbook, SG24-7028, at:

2. Deploy a Web-based course (Delivery Server and content server):
a. Import the course using the Collaborative Learning Command Line Import
Utility (CLIMP).
b. Register the course.
c. Create a catalog entry for the course.
d. Register a student in the course.
e. Log in as a student and verify that the course functions properly.
3. Create a scheduled event (traditional learning, or ILT, event):
a. Create a location.
b. Create a room at the location.
c. Define an instructor.
d. Register the event.
e. Create a catalog entry for the event.
f. Schedule the offering.
g. Enroll a student in the course.
h. Log in as a student and verify that the course functions properly.
4. Test the skill dictionary:
a. Create proficiency levels.
b. Create new skills.
c. Assign courses to skills.
d. Create a new job.
e. Assign a skill to the job.
f. Assign the job to a user.
g. Create a learning plan for the user that recommends a course.
h. Enroll the student in the recommended course.

IBM Workplace Messaging
To test Workplace Messaging functionality, perform the following steps:
1. Test e-mail functionality:
a. Send an e-mail to an internal user with delivery confirmation.
b. Verify receipt of the confirmation.
c. Log in as the internal user and verify receipt of the e-mail.
d. Send an e-mail to an Internet user.
e. Verify that the e-mail was received by the Internet user.
2. Test calendar functionality:
a. Create a new calender entry.
b. Create a repeating appointment.
c. Create a meeting with another participant.
d. Log in as the participant and accept the meeting invitation.
e. Reschedule the meeting.
f. Create an address book entry.
g. Change the address book entry.
IBM Workplace People Finder portlet
To test the functionality of the People Finder portlet, perform the following steps:
1. Test the search functionality:
a. Search for a person by name.
b. Search for a person by e-mail address.
2. In the search results, select a person’s name and select Show Person
Record.
IBM Workplace Team Collaboration
To test the functionality of Team Collaboration, perform the following steps:
1. Test instant messaging:
a. Add people to your contacts list.
b. Verify that other people have a status of “online” in Workplace Messaging
or Workplace Documents.
c. Try to chat with another online person.
d. Try to create a Chat Room.
2. Test Web conferencing:
a. Schedule a Web conference.
b. Upload a presentation to the Web conference.
c. Participate in the Web conference.
d. Change presentation slides.
e. Try to share the screen.

3. Test team spaces:
a. Create a new team space.
b. Add members to the team space.
c. Upload documents to the team space.
d. Create a new team task.
IBM Workplace Documents
To test the functionality of Workplace Documents, perform the following steps:
1. Test the library:
a. Create a new library.
b. Change members.
2. Test the desktop components:
a. Install the desktop components.
b. Try to upload documents with a browser and with the desktop
components.
c. Verify that you can view the documents.
d. Verify that you can edit the documents.
3. Test documents:
a. Create new documents.
b. Try versioning.
c. Add comments to documents.
d. Lock and unlock documents.
e. Replace documents.
f. Try to chat with a different document owner.
Search
To test the functionality of the Search component, search for documents that you
created during test of Workplace Documents.
Cluster failover
If you are running Workplace Collaboration Services in a clustered environment,
perform the following simple fail-over test:
1. Log in to Workplace Collaboration Services as several different users using
different machines and browsers.
2. Shut down node one.
3. Verify that the users logged in to the system have not lost functionality.
4. Start the node.
5. Shut down node two (or any other node if you have several).
6. Verify that the users logged in to the system have not lost functionality.
