4.4.5 Configuring Collaborative Learning for external HTTP
After enabling external HTTP for Workplace Collaboration Services, your next
step in configuring external HTTP is to edit the learning properties for external
HTTP. The Workplace Collaborative Learning properties for external HTTP are
stored in the dbbuild.properties file. Some of the properties in dbbuild.properties
must be changed. Others are optional. Edit all properties that apply to your
environment.
Editing required Collaborative Learning properties
To edit the required Collaborative Learning settings in the dbbuild.properties file,
perform the following steps:
1. Create a Learning content directory in the HTTP server default content
directory, for example, \IBMHTTPServer\htdocs\en_US\content\.
Note: There is no need for you to restart the HTTP server after updating
the WebSphere Application Server plug-in.

2. Edit or add the lmscontent_servers setting in the dbbuild.properties file:
a. Open
\IBM\Workplace\WorkplaceServer\config\database\dbbuild.properties in a
text editor.
b. Add the content URL to the lmscontent_servers parameter. For example:
lmscontent_servers0=PWD_REMOVED
This becomes:
lmscontent_servers0=CS00,0,,ftp://content1.acme.com,
ftpadmin,ftppassword
This URL specifies the transport method and location for courses
delivered from the content server to the Delivery Server: the local file
system or FTP. The number following CSXX indicates the transport
method. A 1 indicates file system. A 0 indicates FTP. You must have an
FTP server installed and configured to use the FTP transport method.
We recommend the file system method if the HTTP server is local
(meaning it is installed on the same machine as IBM Workplace
Collaboration Services) using either the internal HTTP transport or an
external, local HTTP server. For example, the value for
lmscontent_servers0 would be
CS00,1,D:/IBMHTTPServer/htdocs/en_US/content.
FTP is recommended when the content server is remote (on a separate
machine from Workplace Collaboration Services). However, this method
can also be used if the content server is local. Each server’s property must
contain the appropriate FTP user name and password for that server.
3. Remove lms-ds from lmscontent_base_url. For example:
lmscontent_base_url=http://ITSO-IWCS1.cam.itso.ibm.com:80/lms-ds/content
Note: The FTP transport method parameter has two commas after it.
The file system transport method has one comma after it.
Note: The number 0 in lmscontent_servers0 indicates that this is the
first Delivery Server. If you have additional Delivery Servers, you must
configure them as well. To configure an additional Delivery Server,
increment the server number by 1 as in lmscontent_servers1,
lmscontent_servers2, and so on. You can have up to 100 additional
content servers.
262 IBM Workplace Collaboration Services: Release 2.5 Deployment Guide
This becomes:
lmscontent_base_url=http://ITSO-IWCS1.cam.itso.ibm.com:80/content
The lmscontent_base_url is the Web address where the Delivery Server
looks for content when it opens a course, for example,
http://contentserver.acme.com/content. There is no requirement that the
external HTTP server used for Learning content be the same HTTP server as
the one used by the other Workplace Collaboration Services products, but
usually it is the same.
4. Create a directory for importing learning course packages, for example,
D:\packages.
5. Edit the lmmserver_course Packages_dir property to point to the directory
you created. For example:
c:/WebSphere/WorkplaceServer/Learning/lms_courses
This becomes:
D:/packages
6. Save and close the dbbuild.properties file.
Editing optional Collaborative Learning settings in
dbbuild.properties
In addition to editing the mandatory settings for Collaborative Learning, you
might also want to configure the optional settings. If you do not configure the
optional settings at this point, you can use the updatesettings script to update
them later.
Table 4-25 on page 263 shows the remaining default IBM Workplace
Collaborative Learning properties in dbbuild.properties. Changing these
properties is optional. Only change the properties required by your environment.
Note: All content servers must be accessible through the single URL
specified by lmscontent_base_url.
Note: If you do not edit the optional settings for Collaborative Learning, you
will see a learning configuration error in the WebSphere administrative
console. For example, if you leave the to and from e-mail addresses blank, you
will receive a configuration error similar to the following error:
com.ibm.workplace.elearn.error: CLQAH0795E: Null or invalid email address:
{1}.
