TRANSPARENCY

I favor the value of transparency over those of communication or open communication because it conveys the intention as well as the deed of exchanging information openly, of not holding back, of honesty, sincerity, and candor, of no hidden agendas. It is a value that is the essential underpinning of a good number of others; it is hard to feel respected where there is a lack of transparency. Absence of transparency betrays integrity, and ultimately, trust is built on transparency.

As a leader you owe it to your people to be transparent about your intentions, your plans, and your concerns, in the same way you owe them your expression of your active interest in them, their results and careers, in the form of direct feedback, dialogue, ...
