Extensible Markup Language Document Management
The emergence of novel applications for the next-generation network (NGN) highlights the need to overtake the traditional “data silo” model, where the integration of different services is often performed vertically and per service. To fit this need, the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) defined standard reusable common components called enablers. Enablers brought several advantages, such as the reduction of costs, a consistent definition of user interfaces across several services, and a uniform management of the increasing amount of user-related data. The last was facilitated by the gradual introduction of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) Document Management (XDM) technology.
