Above-the-Line Costs. In a budget, the expenses that relate specifically to the creative components of the film. The story rights, writer, director, producer(s), and cast are all considered to be above-the-line costs. (Compare below-the-line costs.)
Actualize. To compare actual costs against original anticipated costs. At the end of the show, after all returns have been made and final invoices have been received, you must actualize the budget to determine how much money you have actually spent compared to how much you anticipated spending for each line item. This is how you will account for any overages or shortages.
