3.3.3 Meiotic recombination of diploid chromosomes
The recombination operators, implemented for genetic algorithms bycrossover, are activated through gene exchange mechanisms duringthe cell division phase of meiosis (Figure 3.31), where paternal and maternal genetic information is merged by crosswise interchange of gene sequences. We will simulate the essential effects of rearranging chromosome structures and recombination of genes during the phase of so-called reduction division (Lewin 1983, p. 30 ff.).
