An example of optical flows detected is given in Figure 7.7. Figure 7.7(a) is an image of a sphere ball with a pattern on surface. Figure 7.7(b) is the image obtained after the ball rotating (around the vertical axis) to the right by a small angle. The ball movement in 3-D space has been reflected in the 2-D image almost as a horizontal translation, so the detected optical flow as shown in Figure 7.7(c) has a large part of the optical flow distribution along the meridian, reflecting the result of the horizontal movement of pattern edges. images
