9.1. Sound creation projection mapping, a real composition of sound

9.1.1. Introduction

Although sound and video are two distinct artistic disciplines, it is not uncommon for the sound part to be relegated to the background in projection mapping projects. It is sometimes just a simple musical accompaniment with an explanatory voiceover. The soundtrack must be an integral part of the work and bring its own narrative by putting distance and rupture in front of the visuals. Like video, which results from the assembly of a multitude of images, layers and masks, it is necessary to think of it as an agglomeration of sound layers constituting a sound landscape.

Sound is always a phenomenon following an event. It is the trace and the residue. It is also the resonance of an act, a movement, the encounter between two materials. Its energy impacts and affects the meaning of what we see because it gives a complementary reading. Indeed, sound enriches this off-field space impossible to show through the image. It develops the contours of the world that the work seeks to create by letting the spectators appeal to their imaginations. Indeed, everyone interprets what they hear according to their own experience and culture. The spectator relativizes what he sees and the visual impact of the projection is accentuated.
