4 Local Quantized Extrema Patterns

4.1 Introduction

This chapter provides the design of a texture descriptor, local quantized extrema patterns (LQEP), which adapts the concept of LQP (Hussain and Triggs 2012) and local directional extrema patterns (DLEP) (Murala et al. 2012a). The local binary pattern (LBP) operator extracts the spatial arrangement of texture by computing the gray-level differences. DLEP method considers all neighbors during the process of feature vector generation. Proposed LQEP approach extracts textural structure as per the variation between referenced picture element and the neighbors in four directions.
