Image Interpolation for Pattern Recognition
6.1 Introduction
A new application for image interpolation is in pattern recognition. The basis of pattern recognition is storing a large number of images in databases to compare them to any new one to decide whether it is already contained in the database. The main problem with databases is the huge storage size. This problem can be solved by making a database containing down-sampled versions of the original images in smaller sizes than the sizes of the original images. The original images could be retrieved when needed through image interpolation.
