Understanding an image and understanding a scene are complex tasks, including many processes, such as observation, perception (combining visual input and some pre-defined representation), recognition (to establish the relationship among different internal representations), matching, cognition, interpretation, and so on. Among these processes, matching that aims to connect something unknown with known facts, knowledge, and rules is a critical task in image understanding.
