Positive psychologist Shawn Achor’s entertaining TED Talk, “The Happiness Advantage,” highlights the importance of changing the lens through which our brains view the world to focus on privilege and the positive, rather than the negative. Doing so reshapes our reality.

Achor emphasizes an inversion of the common expectation that “If I work harder, I’ll be more successful. And if I’m more successful, then I’ll be happier.” In Achor’s view, this mindset inevitably yields misery; every time you have a success, your goalposts for success change.
