If you want to understand how you truly feel about a certain idea or theme, free-write about it without editing. I have never been a confident writer, so I can relate to feeling hesitant about incorporating a writing practice into your work. That being said, stream-of-consciousness writing will unlock ideas. Something about picking up a pen, moving it across the page, and writing the spill of whatever comes out of your mind without stopping opens the path for deeper ideas to emerge. This writing process is an exploration of your own thoughts and should be done unselfconsciously and with reckless disregard for grammar or spelling.
