DEVELOPMENT OF AN ARTIST
As outlined in Robert Greene’s book Mastery, an artist’s developmental trajectory typically follows some common steps:
DISCOVERY OF INTEREST/PASSION: According to Greene: “An urge out of nowhere, a fascination, a peculiar turn of events struck like an annunciation: This is what I must do [. . .] looking back, you sense that fate had a hand in it.”
I remember the exact moment I fell in love with photography. I was in school and watching an image emerge in the darkroom tray of developer chemicals for the first time and thought, “This is like magic!” At that moment, I knew that photography was what I wanted to do. I later learned of my family history in photography, which reinforced this sense of fate.
