ON SET CHECKLIST

Nothing is more exhilarating than being on set, on location, or in the field on a shoot. It makes all the planning, logistics, and crisis navigation worth it because, at the end of the day, you get to do what you love—make photographs.

Shoots can get a bit hectic, especially if on large productions. To stay focused and creative (and so I don’t lose any gear, forget to get a shot I need, or accidentally shoot my whole project with the exposure way off and my file type set to shoot JPEG), I try to maintain a structure or a checklist at every moment of my shoot. Every situation I walk into is different, but here is my basic step-by-step process:

ORGANIZE

Arrive at the location and say hello to the location manager and team.
