Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and many other Cisco Collaboration applications use Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), H.323, Q-Signaling Protocol (QSIG), and many other forms of signaling protocols with endpoints and gateways. Cisco Unified IP phones leverage Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) protocol (media) to communicate among themselves and with Cisco Collaboration applications such as Cisco Unity or Cisco Unity Express (CUE). All signaling and media traffic requires a certain degree of bandwidth to be transported within local-area network (LAN) or wide-area network (WAN).
