24 Implementing Linux on Integrated xSeries Solutions for iSeries
Figure 2-7 Verifying that the Integrated xSeries Adapter is operational
If you have multiple Integrated xSeries Adapters, use the same procedures as described in
2.6.1, “Integrated xSeries Server” on page 15, to correlate a resource name (LINxx) with a
physical Integrated xSeries Adapter. Note that the Frame ID can be determined by removing
the lid of the xSeries and reading the number on the LED located on one side of the
Integrated xSeries Adapter. The LED displays the Frame ID in decimal, which you need to
compare with the Frame ID shown when you type 7 next to the LINxx resource in Figure 2-7
and press Enter.
2.7 Completing the pre-installation tasks on OS/400
Before installing Linux, the following tasks need to be completed:
Install the required iSeries licensed program for Linux integration.
Install the PTFs required for Linux integration support.
Create the driver diskette.
Connect a USB diskette drive to the Integrated xSeries Server.
Connect the integrated server into the Ethernet LAN.
These tasks are described in the following sections.
2.7.1 Installing the required iSeries licensed program for Linux integration
Linux integration support requires the Integration for Windows Server (5722WSV) licensed
program to be installed on your iSeries since it depends on the same core function. Only the
*BASE option of this licensed program is required to be installed. Options 1 and 2 are not
required. To verify that *BASE is installed, follow these steps:
1. Type GO LICPGM on a command line and press Enter. The Work with Licensed Programs
menu is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-8 on page 25.
