The method of SharePoint development has gone through many iterations since SharePoint 2007. In SharePoint 2007, farm solutions were all the rage. Developers had free rein to create what they wanted – the custom solutions they needed with full integration with services running on the farm. However, this did not come without risk because farm solutions could in fact bring the entire farm to a halt.
