5.1 UK Design Council: Double Diamond Design Process
The UK Design Council was established in 1944 with the objective “to promote by all practicable means the improvement of design in the products of British industry.” Since 1944 the organization and approach to design has evolved, transitioning their focus to technology and then engineering. As an awareness of design among businesses increased in the late 1990s, the Design Council recognized a change in focus on how design was needed. This led to a shift in the Design Council’s purpose to include enabling, as well as inspire the use of design.
