Appendix A. Installing or Upgrading InDesign

IN THIS APPENDIX

  • Understanding CS4 system requirements

  • Installing InDesign CS4

  • Upgrading from prior versions of InDesign

  • Reinstalling or uninstalling InDesign

Installing InDesign CS4 is surprisingly easy, but before installing or upgrading, make sure your system meets the InDesign CS4 system requirements. The key requirements are that you are running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), Windows XP (with Service Pack 2 or later), or Windows Vista. Then use the steps in this appendix to make quick work of the installation process. If you're upgrading from an earlier version, you'll actually perform a new installation. But read the section on upgrading near the end of this appendix for information about making the transition to InDesign CS4.

Here are the official requirements:

  • For Macintosh systems, an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4, or G5 processor, running Mac OS X version 10.4.8 or later (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard).

  • For Windows systems, an Intel Centrino (including Duo), Core (including Duo), Pentium (4 or later), ...
