Chapter 49. Setting Tabs
Tabs are characters which cause text to jump to a horizonal position across a text column. InDesign and QuarkXPress use similar methods to handle the tab stops that position the text, except that InDesign uses the Tabs palette instead of a dialog box. In both applications, tabs are a paragraph attribute, and if you don’t set your own tabs, each program creates default tabs which are spaced every one-half inch across the frame.
We suggest that you consider another way of positioning text which in many cases may give you more flexibility—by creating tables. InDesign’s powerful table features let you create cells that can grow as text is added, and can include borders, background color, graphics, and many other attributes. ...
