Chapter 49. Setting Tabs

Tabs are characters which cause text to jump to a horizonal position across a text column. InDesign and QuarkXPress use similar methods to handle the tab stops that position the text, except that InDesign uses the Tabs palette instead of a dialog box. In both applications, tabs are a paragraph attribute, and if you don’t set your own tabs, each program creates default tabs which are spaced every one-half inch across the frame.

We suggest that you consider another way of positioning text which in many cases may give you more flexibility—by creating tables.
