WHILE WE WERE WRITING this book, one of us had the pleasure of attending a screening of the 3-D movie The Hubble at the IMAX theater at the Science Museum in London (needless to say, a child was involved). The movie chronicles the twenty-year history of the space telescope and puts viewers in orbit with seven astronauts aboard the space shuttle Atlantis on a mission to repair the Hubble. After locating the telescope and docking the ship, pairs of astronauts venture out of Atlantis to replace Hubble’s malfunctioning parts—while floating in deep space.
