Africa is emerging as a strategic source of hydrocarbon in the global energy security regime. The importance given to the African sources needs to be appreciated in the context of changing geopolitics of energy since September 11.1 African hydrocarbon is being discovered to diversify the sourcing of oil and gas. The oil companies too are finding it to be a good investment. From the Gulf of Guinea to Angola and Nigeria, the region is said to be set for an oil boom. India too is looking for the African oil to hedge against risk.
