Political Executive at the Union Level

In a democratic set-up, power vests in the people. The administration is the machinery which implements the policies and programmes of the government. The Constitution of India provides for a parliamentary system of government in which the formal powers are vested in the Union executive, which includes the president, the prime minister and the council of ministers.
