District Administration
District has been the basic unit of administration in India since ancient times. The Oxford Dictionary defines district as a ‘territory marked off for special administrative purposes’. Further, the same dictionary defines administration as the management of public affairs. Thus, district administration combines both, thereby meaning the management of public affairs within a territory marked off for that purpose.
