Formaldehyde
As one of the 27 components identified within the Milky Way and with an estimated 21 million tons annually produced worldwide, formaldehyde is everywhere! It is indoors and outside, naturally occurring and manmade. It is a by-product of combustion. It is used in the production of home and office products. It is used in cosmetics, and it is in many of our foods, both naturally and as a contaminant.
Due to its ubiquitous nature and extensive use, formaldehyde was originally the target health hazard in indoor air quality investigations from the late 1970s until just recently.
