Abstract

Agent-based systems in general are not designed, and partly because of their collaborating negotiation behavior, are not capable of directly performing the real-time constrained control of machinery. It has been shown that a two-layered architecture with a multi-agent system on a higher level fulfilling strategic, planning, and supervisory tasks and a reactive lower-level, real-time layer handling the control task is beneficial.
