5.1 PERCEPTIONS AND REALITY
Are the executives of the waste management industry ready for Industry 4.0? Not really. In a 2017 survey by ISWA 1087 [1], participants from 97 countries around the globe were asked a series of questions about Industry 4.0 and possible impacts. Only 14% of the respondents consider that they know a lot about the fourth industrial revolution, while 57% consider that they know “something” and 29% consider that they know “little” or “nothing.” The future may be here already, but if that is the case, the knowledge about it is very unevenly distributed.
