Inequality
Abstract
Inequality fell sharply since mid 1990’s. However, Brazil remains one of the most unequal countries in the world. The reduction in inequality is not only due to government redistributive policies. It is also due to the emergence of favorable conditions in the labor market. Moreover this reduction does not mean that the government redistribution policy is efficient. Actually, there are many Federal Government programs which have a regressive effect. The trend of inequality reduction is decelerating during the second decade of the 21st century, and may stall at a still high level. On one hand, the expansion of the middle class creates conditions for this group to demand better public services and greater economic growth. ...
