Survivability and security attributes of a system can be predicted in several ways: build prototypes and takes measurements, use discrete event simulation to model a system, or construct an analytical model for evaluating the attributes of a system.

Measurement is the direct method for assessing an existing system, but it is not a feasible option during system design and implementation phases.
