This chapter looks at an understudied area of information literacy and looks at why information literacy is important in a child’s early years and its link to lifelong learning. It highlights the role of parents and suggests useful collaborative partnerships. It includes a Scottish case study of what early-years’ information literacy looks like and exemplars of information and critical literacy activities for four, five and six-year-olds incorporated into active/independent learning in nursery and the early years of primary school. Examples from the rest of the UK and other countries are briefly looked at.
