Despite much excellent work in information literacy, systematic evaluation and measurement of the impact of information literacy activity are still relatively underdeveloped. The nature of measurement and impact is discussed and the available indicators and guidelines are analysed. Methods of data collection and analysis are reviewed with a discussion of the most widely used and popular quantitative and qualitative methods. These include surveys, observation and various forms of group discussion, interviewing and phenomenographic methods. The limited number of resources available is considered and the chapter concludes with some examples of good practice in evaluation.
