This book arose out of the work of the now-concluded Scottish Information Literacy Project which functioned between 2004 and 2010. It was brought about by a much smaller but significant earlier project, the Drumchapel Project, which examined the ICT and information-seeking skills of school pupils in a deprived area of Glasgow. Although the Project was intended to be a fairly general study, its findings focused strongly on the need to develop information literacy skills among schoolchildren which could then be carried over into higher education or directly applied in the workplace.
