In this chapter the point is made that in taking the initiative to rethink its scientific status and position, information science finds itself on the threshold of a new life or dispensation. What is required is imaginative thinking outside the boundaries and limitations of its ‘standard’ and ‘standardised’ approach as made applicable and enforced in all the subdisciplines. The whole subject field must be rethought in an effort to overcome the crisis in which it finds itself regarding human meaning and human existence.
